Dr. Sanket Dhat brings a wealth of expertise and compassion to his practice as a dual board-certified psychiatrist specializing in Addiction Medicine and Adult Psychiatry in Lynchburg.
Dr. Dhat completed his psychiatry residency at the esteemed Southern Illinois University, School of Medicine, followed by a fellowship in addiction medicine accredited by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. His dedication to combating addiction led him to take a leading role in the development of an Addiction Treatment Center, focusing on the opioid use disorder population in Central Virginia.
As a leader in the field, Dr. Dhat maintains professional affiliations with prestigious organizations such as the American Psychiatric Association, American Society of Addiction Medicine, and Virginia Psychiatric Association. He currently serves as director at the Lynchburg Academy of Medicine, demonstrating his commitment to advancing healthcare in his community. With a focus on comprehensive care, Dr. Dhat offers expertise in treating a wide range of mental health disorders, including depression, substance abuse, anxiety disorders (such as OCD, GAD, and PTSD), bipolar disorder, ADHD, and women's mental health issues. He is also experienced in utilizing Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) as an innovative treatment option for depression. Dr. Dhat takes a holistic approach to treatment, emphasizing the importance of therapy and lifestyle changes in addition to medication when indicated. Dr. Kimberly H. Buzzelli is a practicing psychiatric Nurse Practitioner in Lynchburg, VA. Dr. Buzzelli received her nursing degree from Lynchburg Collage (currently University of Lynchburg), and her master’s degree from The University of Virginia. In 2014 She completed her education by receiving her Doctor of Nursing degree from Radford University with a focus on geriatric psychiatric care. Prior to completing her master’s degree, she had a diverse nursing career involving the Neurologic ICU, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Case Management.
Dr Buzzelli has been practicing since 2011. The last 2 years she has been working in Lynchburg VA with Community Access Network, treating adults who suffer from psychiatric illness in this diverse integrative care setting. She has also worked with Horizon behavioral health for 7 years and continues to collaborate with staff and treat clients in their outpatient clinics. Always having an interest in Geriatric psychiatry, she spent the first 10 years of her practice developing and working with Centra Health’s Geriatric Psych Program. During her time at Centra Health she
received the mental health provider of the year award. She is also a clinical
Instructor of nursing for George Mason University, Virginia Commonwealth
University, The University of Virginia, and Liberty University.
Throughout her career she has had the opportunity of caring for a wide range of patients in many settings including inpatient, outpatient and an integrative care model. Dr Buzzelli feels comfortable treating ages over the age of 20. She has extensive training in comprehensive psychiatric assessments, psychopharmacology, and evidence-based treatment of mental disorders using medications if indicated but also strives to work with patients and families to identify other interventions that maybe helpful in managing psychiatric problems.
When she is not working with patients Dr Buzzelli enjoys spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, playing tennis, challenging herself with physical fitness activities and caring for her two wonderful dogs, and her beloved cat.
Dr. Wesley is a licensed clinical psychologist. Dr. Wesley graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. She then earned her masters and doctoral degrees in clinical psychology from La Salle University in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Wesley completed her postdoctoral fellowship at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN. Following fellowship, Dr. Wesley served as a psychologist at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia prior to returning home to Lynchburg in 2019.
Dr. Wesley works with patients across the lifespan experiencing a variety of difficulties. She is especially passionate about working with individuals experiencing anxiety and chronic medical conditions. Dr. Wesley is also experienced in psychological assessment, including psychoeducational assessments and ADHD evaluations.
Dr. Wesley is a member of numerous professional associations, including the American Psychological Association and the Society for Pediatric Psychology. Dr. Wesley is a board member of the Celiac Disease Behavioral Science Consortium and serves as an adjunct professor in the Doctoral Program in Clinical Psychology at Liberty University.
In her free time, Dr. Wesley enjoys baking, crafts, playing/watching sports, and spending time with family.
David is a Licensed Professional Counselor and a Certified Substance Abuse Counselor in the state of Virginia. David received his Masters in Professional Counseling from Liberty University in Lynchburg, VA. He was instrumental in the launching and development of two Celebrate Recovery Ministries and has served in various capacities within the organization. David is open to the integration of personal faith and spirituality within the counseling setting when appropriate. David was previously employed for six years with Centra Health Inc. in Lynchburg, VA including time at Bridges Residential Treatment Center and Krise 6 Acute Psychiatry for adolescents as well as the Mundy 3 Acute Psychiatry Unit for adults. David finished his career with Centra as the Lead Mental Health Professional at Virginia Baptist Hospital and Pathways Recovery Lodge in Amherst, VA where he worked alongside Dr. Dhat. David has spent the past five years in a local private practice facility and he is excited about rejoining Dr Dhat. David Cares immensely for his patients and is known for a Person Centered style of therapy. David is adequately trained in the treatment of co-occurring disorders especially anxiety and depression. David enjoys exploring the concepts of emotional intelligence, attachment style, stages of change and twelve step facilitation with each of his clients. He utilizes narrative therapy to help his patients master their own life story. One of David’s most notable quotes is “If getting sober is tough, staying sober is even harder”. David identifies with research that validates addiction counseling and appropriate mental health treatment coupled with peer support as the primary evidence based treatment for substance abuse disorders. David practices primarily from a Cognitive Behavioral model. A true Behaviorist, He challenges his clients with behavior modification techniques that facilitate habit changes to bypass additional damaging effects of continued substance abuse. David is an avid supporter of medication assisted treatment. David offers a unique perspective combining extensive education, training and credentials with real life experience.
Stephanie Porter is a nurse practitioner established in Lynchburg and the surrounding communities. She received her BSN from Liberty University in 2005. She received her MSN from Bluefield College (now Bluefield University) in 2020 and returned there, completing her Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner post-master’s certification in 2023. She practiced as a bedside nurse in a variety of roles including Geriatric Psychiatry, Cardiac Step-down, and multiple Medical-Surgical units. She has worked for United Health Group completing in home wellness exams. She has also practiced as a nurse practitioner at Centra Health’s Addiction Treatment Center and its in-patient psychiatric program managing a variety of mental health conditions and co-occurring disorders. During that time she assisted in developing the psychiatric in-patient medical team for the Adult and Geriatric Psychiatry programs.
Stephanie enjoys spending time with her family, experiencing outdoor activities, and connecting with her church. She also enjoys her animals on her family’s hobby farm.
Ioana is a graduate from Liberty University. She received her B.S in Psychology and pursuing her dream to do Doctorate in Psychology. She has been a Certified Nurse Assistant since 2021. With a profound passion for mental health, Ioana dedicates herself to providing empathetic support and understanding.
Outside the office, Ioana finds joy in outdoor adventures with her family and is a proud cat lover. She also practices taekwondo as part of her commitment to maintaining a balanced lifestyle.
Destiny is a graduate of North Carolina A&T State University. She received her B.S in Sport Science & Fitness Management and hopes to pursue her passion of becoming an Athletic Trainer in the future.
During her free time, she likes to shop, travel, and read.
Jordan holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biotechnology with a minor in Philosophy from Niagara University in New York and is currently advancing towards a Master’s degree in Human Genetics and Genomics. With aspirations of becoming a genetic counselor, Jordan combines a scientific background in chemistry and biology with a deep interest in genetics.
Outside of academics and professional pursuits, Jordan enjoys traveling, jet skiing, snowboarding, and white-water rafting. A proud Buffalo native, Jordan also looks forward to cheering on the Buffalo Bills every Sunday.
